Deb Lenzen & Mike Shaw
Deb Lenzen was raised on the prairie of North Dakota. She now lives in Prescott, Arizona. Deb has been flying kites since 1985. She began making kites more than twenty years ago. Kitemaking gives her the opportunity to be a visual storyteller.
The majority of her kites tell the story of the respect and admiration she has for the Native American cultures of her birthplace in the Pacific Northwest, her work life in North Dakota and now her retirement days in the desert southwest. Those kites have been award winners at the Berkeley Kite Fest, Washington State International Kite Festival and the Comprehensive Kitemaking Competitions at the AKA Nationals.
Her kite, Eyedazzler, was award AKA Grand Champion honors in 2017. She has been an invited guest at kite festivals from Oregon to New York and from Canada to Texas and even to Italy. She invites spectators to ask about the stories she launches into the sky. It is an honor for her to bring her kites and stories back HOME to the prairie.
